Full Description
Moated site at Lymball's Farm. Isolated position, close to parish boundary. Rectangular, main platform unoccupied. Plan made by D E Davy circa 1825 - on microfilm in Ipswich Record Office J400/2. Also mentioned in Davy's Journal of Excursions 1823-1844 Manuscript.
1994: Site scheduled (S1).
A double moat, one within the other, remains at Lyenball's (Lymball's) Farm. The inner moat, a parallelogram, is perfect; fifty feet to north and west are the only remaining sides of the outer moat, though a larger tract of land had evidently been enclosed to the east. (2)
A rectangular homestead moat, on the east side of Lymball's Farm, measuring overall about 50.0m north west - south east by about 75.0m transversely with waterfilled arms varying between about 5.0m and 10.0m in width. No trace of a structure was found within the cultivated enclosed area. The external water feature to the north and west shown on the OS 25 inch appears a later drainage ditch (S3).
