Full Description
Great Barton Manor (BRG 015), TL 880 6707, 1066/1086 Manor of 5 carucates belonging to the Abbot of St Edmunds. 1539 at the dissolution passed to the Crown.
1554 Linked to Cavenham and Herringswell (Sir Thomas Audley).
1704 Thomas Folks owns. Passes by marriage and inheritance to Sir Thomas Hanmer (1722) and thence to Sir William Bunbury 1746 (links to Mildenhall) (S1).
Goult, W suggests only one Sub Manor with two possible names Nacton Hall and Conyers Hall, 1271 suggested as manor of John Haunsell, died and seized. 1375- 1585 owned by Nicolas Conyers of Finninham. 1595 owned by Thomas Lawrence (S1).
However, there are two possible sub manor locations indicated by moats at Nacton Hall (BRG 003) TL88006740, which has now been completely destroyed and at Conyers Green (BRG 004) TL88006740 where the north and west arm of the moat remains. Nacton hall is visible on Hodkinson 1783 but Conyers Green is not. (S2)
