Full Description
Roman scatter including possible tesserae & suggested as villa site. Account, from Adrian Howlett, of his late uncle, John Oxborrow, who farmed the land, reporting 'finding lots of Roman coins (some seen by A Howlett), pieces of pottery and small tiles; possibly mosiac'. Location of field believed to be on east side of Rattlesden to Drinkstone road, after trackway to east- 'where it meets the Rattlesden-Drinkstone Rd at the top of Drinkstone hill' (trackway to Pegg's Farm & before The Chestnuts, ie, field/s centreing on TL 968593 or, alternatively, footpath a bit further north, ie, field centreing on TL964595?). Account in (S1).
Survey needed to locate site precisely.
