Full Description

A concrete pad was encountered during groundworks. Having been identified as a World War II pillbox base the structure was subject to recording. The base consists of a flat rectangular slab on concrete measuring 4.0, NE to SE and c. 4.3m SW to E, with the clear remains of side walls outside this. No indications of any mountings or ricochet protection walls were visible in the centre of the slab. It is thought to be the remains of a Type 24 pillbox, forming a pair with BTM 043, and located on the sides of a weir to protect the river crossing (S1).
