Full Description
On map SAU ref. no. 11 there is a note by Basil Brown referring to this site as the place where the late Mrs Caton excavated and found Roman pottery. The information came from Reverend R B Caton. The finds are at Norwich Museum according to B Brown (S1) but there is Sax pottery at Thetford Museum (S3) so this may be an error. However, the description of the site given by Mrs Caton places the field Hercules Went in Fakenham parish, SE of the site marked by Basil Brown and should be considered as part of the Fakenham settlement at FKM 001 (S2). Although there is no knowledge of where the Roman pottery now is, Middle Saxon pottery (Ipswich ware) from this site dug by Mrs Caton is in Thetford Museum (S3).
