Full Description

2006: Monitoring during development groundworks revealed the remains of a WWII concrete subterranean air raid shelter, measuring 35' x 8'3". The shelter would have been designed for approximately 25 individuals, and probably intended for military rather than public use. The shelter had five steps leading down to the entrance, and evidence for internal blast walls and shuttering. The southern extremity of a sand quarry depicted on the 1904 Ordnance Survey map was also defined (S1).
