Monument record MNL 611 - Central car park, RAF Mildenhall

Please read our .

Summary

An evaluation and monitoring was carried out during the relaying of the Central Car Park on RAF Mildenhall. The excavation revealed that there was a layer of disturbed soil below the tarmac, which overlaid natural chalk and a fine brown silt. Although the silt occurred naturally in pockets over the chalk there was some evidence that it survived in the base of post medieval linear features that are thought to be truncated drainage pits. No finds or features from the Roman and Iron Age settlement on Mildenhall was found.
