Full Description

Two phase of evaluation were undertaken in advance of the redevelopment of the former Ridgeons site, identifying well preserved early-late modern features relating to the 19th century malthouse complex. Several rows of post holes may indicate an alternative entrance to the site or that the river was reinforced. Walls relating to former structures depcited on historic maps were also recorded, together with concrete footings from a more recent structure. The original bank of the canal was not located, but a possibly later and narrow channel was identified. A kiln or oven was located along the SE border of the site (S1).
