Full Description
Recorded in gazetteer of significant Industrial Archaeological sites extracted from a 1980 booklet entitled 'Industrial Archaeology in and around Norfolk' and revised as 'Suffolk IA Sites in 1980' in Suffolk Industrial Archaeological Society Newsletter (SIAS Newsletter, 115, Nov 2011) where it is described as: TM/177447 This lofty four-arched brick viaduct carries the Felixstowe railway, constructed in 1876 by Lucas brother, of Lowestoft, for George Tomline of Orwell Park, Nacton, over a valley running towards the orwell. The is an uncomfirmed legend that during construction a horse and cart fell into the interior of one of the four slender piers and was entombed there. Although bridges elsewhere were designed to accommodate a possible double track, the viaduct is only wide enough to carry a single track, (S1).
