Full Description

Monitoring of groundworks for a new leisure facility was carried out as a condition of the planning consent in order to record any archaeological evidence present. Red brick footings likely to be associated with a building which formerly fronted George Street were identified in a service trench, along with a large undated probable extraction pit. No interventions were observed in the excavated building foundations and no pre-modern artefacts were recovered from the upcast spoil or seen in any of the trench sections (S1).
