Full Description

2012: Archaeological monitoring revealed a pit of possible Late Iron Age to Early Romano-British date. The pit contained three sherd of pottery from this date. Although this is not enough evidence to confidently date the pit, it is broadly consistent with much of the archaeology within Long Melford. The sherds were three joining body sherds of wheel thrown grog-tempered pottery which date to the Roman conquest period and are dated from the Late Iron Age to c.60-70 AD (S1).
