Full Description
Iron spearhead 38.7cm long by 3.4cm wide, open socket with traces of parallel line decoration, single rivet hole. Found in dredgings from R Lark 'at (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)' by Michael Wiseman (S1). 1988: Cleaned mechanically and conserved by Norwich Castle Conservation Dept. X-rays show central core on which cutting edges possibly welded (S2). Compare with MNL 061. Probably of Swantons form E3, having long, straight sided angular blade. These are poorly dated but appear to be C6 or C7 (S3). The banded decoration or binding rings occurs in two main groups, above the socket slit and at the socket mouth.
