Map of 1686 by Thomas Hornebye names this as Godbolds in the Wood, the property of William Godbold gent. shows the house facing north, approached from the N by a straight tree-lined avenue (see WGW 017), the courtyard fronting the house is shown as bounded on the N by straight stretch of water, crossed by a bridge or causeway (approximately a third of the length from the E) and with a slight return to the S at the E end. Area to W, E & S of the house shown as orchard (S1). Irregular moat shown on 1:10560 map in the area of the orchard, behind the drawing of the house facade. Still shown as an orchard on the 1:10560 map. Shown on modern 1:10000 map as much reduced in size. Linear pond shown on N side of farmstead on 1:10560 map, again shown reduced on 1:10000 map.
