Full Description
January 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty National Mapping Programme..
Several possible World War Two practice trenches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1-S3) on land within Lumphall Walks, Blythburgh. It is possible that at least one of these features may represent a gun emplacement for field artillery. They are situated in the vicinity of further areas of practice trenches (SHER BLB 097 and BLB 105) and bomb craters (SHER BLB 098).These earthworks are now mostly levelled, although earthworks do remain in the area of a short-lived field gun site in this area (Liddiard, R., pers comm) which did not employ any concrete but made up part of the field artillery defences of the area. Several possible bomb craters (BLB 098) are also visible within this area.
