Full Description
October 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
A probable World War Two gun battery was visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S5) on Hollesley Heath to the north of a searchlight battery (SHER HLY 141).
It is possible that this site was the field artillery site on Hollesley Heath classified as ‘D’ Tp 320 Battery, 131 Fd Regt, 4 -25prs, depicted in (S6), which made up part of the ‘coastal crust’ field artillery defensive sites. Three other sites have been recognised in this area which may potentially belong to this field artillery group (SHER HLY 115, SUT 244 and SUT 245).
E. Ford (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 28th October 2015.
