Full Description

Moat, unoccupied. Fragments of rectangular moat (S1).

A rectangular part-waterfilled homestead moat surrounds Park Farm (name verified). It measures c 80.0m EW by c 90.0m transversely, with arms averaging 11.0m wide. The lower E arm is waterfilled, but the rest of the work is dry, being cut into an E-facing slope. The NWcorner of the moat has been disturbed and a modern pond formed. The farm house is c. 17 C but not outstanding. Published survey (25")revised. (2)

Moat at Park Farm incomplete; the eastern arm being the only extant remains, 10-20m wide 0.5-1.0m deep. Entrance to the interior still extant, by causeway across eastern arm. Small bank encloses southern end of eastern arm, 0.5m high 10.0m long. Plan. (3)

Contrary to Hoppitt's statement, this moat survives intact except for the northwest corner which has been infilled. The east arm is waterfilled but the remainder is a dry ditch 11.0m in width and 1.0m idepth. The small portion of retaining bank noted by Hoppitt has been added to the MSD.
On the north side of the moat, contiguous to the north west angle is a sub-rectangular ditched enclosure measuring 100.0m north to south and 50.0m east to west. The ditch averages 3.0m in width and 0.5m in depth, but while the north arm is waterfilled, the feature runs downhill towards the homestead moat, so it could never have held water entirely. It is not as strong as the moat but was probably contemporary with it, possibly a paddock of some sort
