Full Description
One of three Round Barrows on Playford Heath - see PLY 003 & PLY 005. 1962: A vague hummocky mound with trees, diameter 15.0m, maximum height 0.2m. 2 February 1977: Island in area of rough grass - once ploughed up to margins. Mound height 0.61m, diameter 20m.
1981: Diameter 30 ft, height 2 ft. Grassed, some deciduous trees, surrounded by lucerne (S1).
1991: Said to be ploughed and at risk. The whole of Playford Heath is ploughed and access is very difficult. One barrow does still exist, but field worker unable to find it (S2).
1993: `Visible as a sub-circular earthen mound, standing to a maximum height of c. 0.8m, although slightly flattened on the N side, and covering an area with a maximum diameter of 21m N-S by 19m E-W. there is no trace on the ground surface of a ditch...'(S1). Said in 1993, to show `no obvious signs of having been disturbed, other than by animal burrowing and as a result of penetration by tree roots' (S1) yet see 1991 notes above. NGR amended - see (S1).
Has Playford HER code, but NGR locates to just in Kesgrave parish.
