Monument record SNH 004 - A possible field system and associated trackway of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs to the south of the railway in Stratton Hall parish

A possible field system and associated trackway of unknown date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, centred on TM 25033921 in fields to the south of the railway in Stratton Hall parish. The possible field system consists of single and double-ditched linear boundaries which may abut a ditched trackway at right-angles. The trackway appears to have been recut on at least one occasion and runs from TM 24783923 to TM 25243892, almost parallel but to the south of the major trackway recorded in SNH 005. The trackway is orientated on a NW to SE alignment which does not seem to fit into either the modern or Post Medieval field pattern (SNH 001) or into the extensive Later Prehistoric or Roman landscape (SNH 005) both which overlap with the possible system described above. The date of the field system therefore remains unclear. (S1-S5)
