Monument record STN 105 - Possible undated mound

Please read our .

Summary

A possible mound of unknown date was identified as an earthwork during a Rapid Archaeological Investigation Survey. It is not convincing as an archaeological feature on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015, and could perhaps be spoil heaps, although there is no obvious sign of quarrying nearby, or a natural feature.

Full Description

2016: Possible Undated Mound. The area around the mound undulates considerable and it could also be spoil heaps or natural feature (S1).

October 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The possible mound of unknown date described above is visible as an earthwork on imagery from a recent lidar survey (S2). As it appears on the lidar, it is not convincing as an archaeological feature, and as suggested above it may be spoil – although there is no clear evidence of quarrying - or of natural origin. It has not been mapped by the project.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 11th October 2017.
