Full Description

The core of Chilton Hall is considered to date from the 16th century however the building was extensively remodelled in the late 18th century. The principal elevation dates from the 18th century when the earlier timber framed structure was extended and a western wing added with a new entrance porch with a slate roof. This altered the orientation of the house as map evidence suggests that access had previously been via the courtyard to the east. The rear elevation shows the L-shape of the original 6th century house which is rofed in plain clay tiles. There is a range of outbuildings that is an early 19th century addition (S1).
