Full Description

Monitoring of groundworks revealed medieval pits and walls associated with the earlier medieval building below the Poor House. Further sections of medieval walls were found throughout the other trenches. Cobbles surfaces of possible medieval date were also identfied and are evidence for a continous footing of the castle's curtain wall. Poittery of medeival date was also recovered. The post medieval feautres comprisedfurther pits, walls and deposts related to the extensive proghrammes of demolition, cleareance and re-use sonce the 16th century, revlared the impact of post medieval and modern acvivity within the caslte has been significant (S1).
