Full Description

Monitoring of excavations for disabled ramps ashallow excavation revealed a cobbled surface likely to be of post-medieval date, but could be earlier adjacent to the barn doors. Traces of bitumen and/or tarmac over the cobbles were probably of 19th or 20th century origin. Footings trenches adjacent to Guesten Hall revealed a recently laid topsoil over a spread of post-medieval rubble. These deposits are likely to relate to post-medieval or more recent landscaping (S1).
