Full Description
No 46 High Street dates from the early 19th century with an early 18th century rear right wing. The house was probably converted into a shop during the 19th century when Saxmundham prospered as a market town with good rail and road communications. It is likely that the outbuilding on the south side of the yard was a former stable and coach house during the 18th century until it was converted into a workshop for the ironmongery business (S1).
The former stable is an early 18th century flemish bond brick building. The low pitched roof is clad in natural slate tiles to the north and corrugated tin and clay pantiles to the south. The interior retains the original brick floor (S2).
