Full Description

2018: A program of archaeological evaluation was carried out on land off of Victoria Road, Stowmarket in advance of the development of three new dwellings. Three trenches were excavated across the footings of the proposed buildings and the open area to the north-east, revealing a single post-medieval/modern pit feature and several modern truncations likely to be related to either the nearby historic quarry pitting or the levelling of the site and construction of previous garages in the early 1970’s. No evidence of Roman or medieval activity was noted related to the nearby recorded sites of a Roman kiln and/or a medieval manor house. (S1)
