Full Description
1978: A history of Brandon was prepared for publication by the Rotary Club of Brandon and District. This includes research into various aspects of Brandon's history including: Bridges, Saxons, Battles, Vikings, Normans, Muser Rolls of the Territorials in Tudor Times, Ship Money, The Great Sandstorm, Hearth Tax, 17th century, Navigation Act, 18th century, the Growth of Pauperism caused by enclosure, the Fire Engine, the Old workhouse and national school, The fire of 1789, Napoleonic Wars, the Poor Rate, post-war depression, Railway, Riots, Families, Land Tax Assessment, Roads, observations on Grimes Graves (S1).
