Full Description
Cobbin's Barn is an outfarm visible on the 1st Ed OS map. The outfarm is laid out in a regular F-plan and sits alongside a private track in an isolated location. There has been a significant loss of working buildings with the remaining appearing to have been converted for residential use (S1-3).
Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
18th century isolated five bay field barn, built using materials from two late 16th century barns. The barn is connected to Glemham House but the extact relationship is unclear, by the early 19th century the barn was part of Hall Farm. The barn is timber-framed with horizontal weatherboarding on a brick and flint plinth. The roof is clay pantiles. (S4)
