Full Description

Extensive and dense scatter of pottery, mainly grey wares with only 2 small fragments of samian. Grey wares include 'dog bowls', 4 flanged rims, 4 frilly rims, 2 rouletted pieces, 1 pimple decorated piece; probably mostly C3-C4. Some probable wasters and some possible kiln furniture fragments are present suggesting a possible pottery production site. Bow of a nauheim derivative bronze brooch from (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). Fragments of lava mill stone. Additional fieldwalking produced a samian sherd, a grey ware frilly rim, 3 flanged bowls and a sherd with a red-orange colour coat on an orange fabric (S1). Metal detecting over a similar area produced a few coins, range Vespasian (AD 69-79) - Carausius (AD 286-293) and several brooches (S3).
Also IA pottery and Sax metalwork.
