Full Description

`Lowestoft 1st January - All last night it blew a most terrific gale from WSW to W, during which upwards of 100 vessels parted from their anchors and were driven to sea. The DARLINGTON...broke her windlass, tore up her fore deck and drifted upon the Newcome Sand, but was assisted off and brought in here a complete wreck.' (2)

NB: This vessel may not have been lost on this occasion as a DARLINGTON of Newcastle was reported as wrecked at Brancaster 2 years later (q.v.); although this may equally be a different ship of the same name.
