Full Description

`In the late gales...the INDUSTRY, Wigham, of the same place [South Shields], was lost between Yarmouth and Lowestoff, and all hands...' (3)

`Newcastle, 2nd Dec. During the late gales...The INDUSTRY, Wigham, of South Shields, was lost near Lowestoffe.' (1)

`Lowestoffe, Oct. 23. Yesterday morning between 5 and 6 o'clock, the wind blew very strong at SSW, and increased to a tremendous gale during the day.' (2)

[NB: This vessel may be identifiable, from her place of registration, with one of the two collier brigs (q.v.) reported lost on the Stanford and Newcome Sands respectively, or with any of the other brigs lost in the vicinity, during this gale. The time elapsed between the gale and the report from Newcastle is consistent with a period of awaiting news of a missing vessel before declaring the loss from her home port.]

Master: Wigham (1)(3)

Date of Loss Qualifier: A
