Full Description

The cropmark of a square enclosure can be seen on EH Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken in 2010. This incomplete cropmark is situated to the south of St. Margaret's Church at TL 7187 5484. The enclosure is partly overlain by the church's graveyard and the northern side is not visible but the remaining three corners are aligned to the east, south and west. Its proximity to the church may suggest it is medieval even though it is on a different alignment. It may however be earlier and date to the Iron Age or Roman period. The cropmark of a ditch to the west which runs parallel to the enclosure for a short distance may be an associated trackway (S1).

On Google Earth 7/2018 further enclosures are visible to the east on a similar alignment, suggestive of pre-Medieval occupation/field system.
