Monument record OCC 039 - Cropmarks of a possible later prehistoric enclosure

The cropmarks of a possible later prehistoric enclosure can be seen on HE Reconnaissance aerial photographs. These are situated to the east of the late 16th century Grove Farm. The site consists of an irregular enclosure bounded on its eastern side by a north-south drove way (TM 1715 6962). The enclosure is subdivided, with a ditch defining its north eastern corner. Another similarly sinuous cropmark ditch can be seen heading south form the south-western corner of Grove Farm. Both this and the droveway approximately mark the parish boundary between Occold and Bedingfield. Other cropmarks identified are straighter and largely relate to the field pattern depicted on the 1886 Ordnance Survey map. Those along the line of the drove way and on the western side of the farmstead appear to represent a straightening of these earlier boundaries. Two areas of amorphous cropmarks are to the east and south-east of Grove Farm and appear restrained by the cropmarks of post medieval field boundaries.
