ENGLISH BRIG, 1852
Status: Casualty

`Vessel foundered and lost in wind conditions SW force 10-11, hazy with rain, having struck on the Whiting Sand but got off. Crew were saved except for the master's son, who drowned whilst attempting to get into the ship's boat. The loss on the cargo is estimated at 200 pounds [sterling] but was not insured; the loss on the vessel was 50 pounds, being insured for 500 pounds.' (1)(2)
