ENGLISH BRIG, 1836
Status: Casualty

`Lt. Carter, in charge of the lifeboat was unfortunately injured
severly in the right arm, in saving lives from the SPEEDWELL, so that
he was unable to go off again in the lifeboat. The Lowestoft and
Pakefield men successfully saved the crew.' (2)

Lowestoffe 4 February 1836. Early this morning the wind veered round from SSE to E and by N, and blew a heavy gale. At daylight, the beach from Pakefield to Covehithe was covered with broken spars, pumps, boats & c. The DAVID RICARDO, Halliday, of London, was driven this morning on Kessingham Flats, and sunk. Crew saved by the Life Boat. From the number of pumps washed on shore, at least six vessels have been lost. (3)
