Full Description

NORWEGIAN BRIG, 1872
Status: Casualty

`Drove on the Holm Sand in a north-east gale. The Lowestoft lifeboat
LAETITIA was towed out, probably by the RAINBOW, into terrific seas.
At first she was unable to relieve herself fast enough of the sea that poured into her. Conditions were so bad in fact that one of the
crew, Henry Hall, had his leg broken. Out at the wreck, the lifeboat
crew found the casualty surrounded by fallen masts and spars. Approaching from windward, the lifeboat anchored and gradually veered
down to the vessel. Working his way carefully through the wreckage,
Robert Hook, cox'n, managed to take off the whole crew of ten. For
this rescue, Hook was awarded his second Service Clasp. The
presentation took place at the anniversary meeting of the Suffolk
Humane Society and the Lowestoft and Pakefield Lifeboat Association
on the 20th August. The morning was spent inspecting the lifeboats
and watching them being exercised. Hook received his clasp and a
vellum for the rescue of the EXPEDITE.' (2)
