Full Description

Hitcham House is an interesting classical country house built in Suffolk white brickwork and a slate roof on the edge of the village of Hitcham, on a hillside overlooking the church. The house probably dates from the seventeenth century or earlier but has been very much altered and refaced in the nineteenth century in grey gault brickwork. It consists of a main house of two storeys with a third storey in the roof space lit by lead covered dormer windows. It has painted timber sash windows with the sash box set on the wall face with rubbed and gauged arches and stone cills. There are simple brick corner pilasters and a high-level string course. The entrance front is characterised by Baroque style curved bay windows with a slightly projecting central bay with a pediment and an enclosed porch. There is a part basement in the east corner.
