Full Description
Row of four almshouses built in c. 1606 by Lady Anne Windsor. The Almshouses comprise a single storey, gable-ended building. The structure is four bays in width, with each bay servicing a residential unit which is two bays deep in the principal pile. The building is of timber frame construction with a tile roof. Two ornate red brick chimneys service the fireplaces to each unit. The casement windows and doors in the principal pile are not original but some are old enough to be considered significant.
The principal historic pile is divided into four units. The units are almost identical, although some changes have taken place which have resulted in differences. Each unit originally comprised a front and rear room. The front room is directly accessed from the external door and contains a large fireplace. The rear room currently contains a kitchen in all four units. The roof has been subject to several phases of repair however one significant survival in the roof space are some of the partition walls, constructed of wattle and daub/plaster (S1).
