Full Description
Monitoring revealed a large post Medieval well approximately 1.5m in diameter and was lined with bricks to a depth of c.2-3m, after which it was cut into solid chalk. The overall depth was estimated at c.30m. It had a dome shaped cap. The bricks users were flint and ferrous sandy types, measuring 64mm thick and 115mm wide and typical of bricks used in the 18th-19th centuries. A chalk surface was also identified of a probable external yard surface laid shortly after the construction of the post-medieval extension at the rear of the public house. (S1).
