Full Description

2004: A documentary survey identified evidence that medieval tenements likely occupied the site of 39 Abbeygate Street Bury St Edmunds. In addition, several buildings to the west were destroyed in 1882 and photographs of the aftermath of the fire show that the buildings had deep cellars from the frontage and under the entire length of building which indicates loss of original ground level, however nearby cellars have been proven to have been built in the footprint of medieval cellars and so there might be potential to find evidence of the earlier structures in the area.
