Full Description

2013: A geophysical survey was undertaken in a field adjacent to the east of Lidgate Castle. The survey comprised an area of magnetometer survey and a smaller area of resistivity. The survey identified areas of possible building debris and perhaps some surviving below ground foundations of structures visible on the 1st edition OS. Anomalies were also identified which correspond to the line of a curving bank earthwork visible on the 1st edition OS and might represent concentrated dumps of material, perhaps burnt material, within the line of this feature which is no longer visible above ground. Dating is uncertain but this might represent part of the possible outer bailey boundary around Lidgate Castle. (S1)
