Full Description

Test pit one was excavated within the enclosed long real garden of a terraced 19th century property of 27 Nethergate street. The test pit was excavated to a depth of 0.7m without finding natural. They found 5 core-reduced flint flakes and 2 fire-cracked fints of uncertain date. Small amounts of animal bone were recovered alongsde a medium quanity late medieval to post medieval pottery. Three coins were also recovered, including a one penny from 1979, a Spanish coin of unknown date, and a worn coin without marks. A substantial amount of modern material was recovered, apparently household refuse (S1).
