Full Description

Test pit two was excavated in the long enclosed rear garden of the semi-detached cottage, 9 station road, in the centre of the village. The test pit was excavated to a depth of 0.6m without finding natural. The pit largely returned a small quantity of post medieval pottery, and a single sherd of Romano British pottery. Other finds included a small quantity of glass bottle fragments, five pieces of slag, nine fragements of animal remains including a pig incisor, and oyster shells. A number of prehistoric worked flint flakes were also found amongst the post medieval contexts. Additionally, a small quantity of apparently Victorian and Modern household refuse was recovered (S1).
