Full Description

Test pit five was excavated within the enclosed rear garden of a listed 17th century house, Rosina Cottage, opposite Clare's parish church. The pit was excavated to 0.6m without finding natural. Two worked flints were recovered. A single sherd of Late Medieval Ware pottery was also recovered, alongside a number of animal bones fragments including one sheep/goat radius. There was also a small quantity of post medieval pottery, clay pipe stems, and iron nails. Every excavated context contained modern material, largely household refuse (S1).
