Full Description
Test pit six was excavated in the large enclosed back garden west of a listed 18th century house, 10 Nethergate Street. The test pit was excavated to a depth of 0.8m without finding natural, with the lowest contexts, 6 to 8, containing undisturbed medieval remains. A large quantity of post medieval pottery was found, alongside clay tobacco pipe stems, iron nails, unidentified animal remain, and oyster shells. The medieval contexts 6 and 8 contained a number of fragments of later medieval pottery, cow and sheep/goat bone, and an oyster shell (S1).
