Full Description
May 2026. South-West Suffolk Claylands Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
Field boundaries of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1) and as earthworks on visualised lidar data (S2). Possible additional ditches are visible on aerial photographs of the site (S1, S3-S4) but their archaeological origin is more uncertain and they have not been mapped. As the bank elements are visible as earthworks on the visualised lidar data, and the ditch elements as cropmarks on the aerial photographs, the stratigraphic relationship between the two forms of boundary is uncertain. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is likely that the earthworks still survive.
