Full Description
May 2026. South-West Suffolk Claylands Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
A possible osier bed, of presumably post medieval to modern date, is visible as what are probably earthworks on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The site is visible as two blocks of ridges. In the western block, the ridges are oriented broadly east-to-west; in the eastern block they are oriented north-to-south. The individual ridges measure approximately 3-4m wide. It is not clear to what extent they are earthworks, or whether some of their apparent height is due to the height of the vegetation growing on them. More recent aerial sources, including lidar data from a survey flown in 2018 (S4), show that the earthworks have been levelled and possibly destroyed.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council Environment Team), 21st May 2026.
