Full Description
September 2026. South-West Suffolk Claylands Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
An undated ring ditch, possibly a post medieval tree enclosure ring, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and visualised lidar data (S1-S2) in the grounds of Stradishall Manor. The northern part of the feature remains visible on visualisations from a lidar survey flown relatively recently (2023) and it is likely that this portion of the earthwork still survives; the southern half may have been levelled. The origin of the ring ditch is not certain, but it may correspond to trees visible in this portion of the grounds on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S3).
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council Environment Team), 18th September 2026.
