Full Description
September 2026. South-West Suffolk Claylands Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
Probable field boundaries of medieval date are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs (S1-S2). Part of at least three, slightly curved, parallel fields are visible, together with boundaries possibly defining larger fields and/or road-front properties. Larger depressions may relate to quarrying or construction along the road frontage. The fields and boundaries may be associated with the post medieval farm previously identified to the west of the site (SDL 015). More recent aerial imagery and visualised lidar data (S3) shows that while some traces of the earthworks still survive, they have for the most part been levelled.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council Environment Team), 25th September 2026.
