Full Description
September 2026. South-West Suffolk Claylands Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
Poorly defined ditches and banks, visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1) and as earthworks on visualised lidar data (S2), may relate to medieval to post medieval boundaries. The area is considerably confused, however, with post medieval field boundaries depicted on historic Ordnance Survey maps, and features that appear to relate to natural drainage into the river valley to the south. It is therefore possible that some or all of the recorded features are of low or negligible archaeological significance. Conversely, it is possible that additional archaeological features are visible which have not beeen recognised. The earthworks are visible on visualised lidar data from a relatively recent (2022) survey, and it is likely that they still survive.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council Environment Team), 24th September 2026.
