Extensive pattern of ditches etc, cut by "Dead Lane". Probably Rom. Complex field system, complicated by periglacial features, with numerous rectilinear field boundaries (S1-S4). For interpretation and mapping see (S5).

Monitoring of a new water main between the Stratford St Mary pumping station and the Lattinford Borehole site (TM 056345 toTM 079368). The pipeline crossed an extensive cropmark site centred at TM062348 which was subject to sample excavation. The majority of the features were concentrated in a 2m length at approximately the highest point of the field. The excavation should the archaeological remains on the norther end of the site derives from a much wider period. No evidence of any settlements was identified, however a large number of Iron Age pottery sherds was recovered from a sample, suggests settlement in the immediate vicinity (S7).
