Full Description
Small possibly moated site shown on OS 1:10560 map. Marked as "Homestall" on Metfield Enclosure Map 1825 and as "Stackyard and Yard" on 1839 Tithe map and was then part of Valley Farm. Site is now ploughed (1983), one wet section (75 feet wide, 108 feet long, 9-12 feet deep, and surrounded by trees and bushes) remains, in line with the bend in the field boundary to the N of the site. From the ploughed area to the W of the surviving wet area a small amount of pottery was recovered, some possible later Med sherds, C16-C17 and C18 sherds (S1).
C14-early C16 pottery, lava mill stone fragment from the area to the W. Pottery includes products of the Docking Hall kiln (MTF 027) (S2). See also PMed.
